Your Toolkit for Change

We don't just advocate for change—we provide the skills and tools necessary for our community members to drive it themselves. Our programs are designed to empower residents of all ages and backgrounds to be effective leaders and activists.

Training & Skill-Building Workshops

These bi-monthly, structured workshops offer practical skills and critical knowledge needed for civic engagement:

Leadership Development

Practical skills in community organizing, public speaking, and managing local initiatives.

Voter Education

Ensuring every resident understands their rights, how to register, and how local elections impact daily life.

Racial Equity & Implicit Bias

Fostering dialogue and providing tools to address systemic bias in schools and workplaces.

Health & Environmental Justice

Understanding the connections between policy, environmental factors, and community well-being.

Policy & System Analysis

Dedicated sessions on understanding and assessing Imperial County government and public system performance.

Deep Roots Oral History Project

This crucial initiative preserves the history and cultural richness of the Imperial Valley by collecting and sharing the oral histories of underrepresented communities, particularly African American histories. The project ensures that the wisdom of our elders is the foundation of our current advocacy.

Project Kindness

An anti-bullying and mental wellness initiative that uses games and dialogue to help kids know they are heard and have support. We collaborate with youth to ensure their power and perspective are centered in decisions about educational equity and local governance.

Community Accountability & Advocacy

Our team supports community members in pushing for policy change by:

  • Developing two-page, clear policy summaries on issues like bus access and hiring inequities.

  • Preparing residents for public comments at City Council and Commission meetings.

  • Co-hosting large-scale events with allies to amplify shared issues.

Community Celebrations & Key Events

IVSJC brings the community together through powerful cultural celebrations, historical acknowledgments, and key mobilization events throughout the year.
